Agriculture and Rodeo

I particularly liked when the weather turned warmer each year, because that meant the start of rodeo season. I wrote features on the Bar U Ranch, a national historic site. Over two summers, I covered agriculture, rodeo and chuckwagons and profiled drivers and outriders and rodeo clowns.

My one brush with celebrity beyond award-winning Heartland actresses, was speaking with celebrated country singer Ian Tyson. I was brought in to speak with him, after several other reporters had failed to get an interview. After leaving a phone message one day, I got up super early the next morning and into the office to call him between breakfast and seeing to his cattle. That perseverance got me precious few minutes to speak with him about his new album.
