About Jessica

Based in Toronto, I am a highly-skilled journalist and editor with
12 years of experience creating compelling and informative content in staff positions at daily and weekly newspapers and magazines, and as a freelancer and photographer for more than 40 publications across Canada.

As the Americas Correspondent for FIPP – the network for global media, my focus is on the changing magazine media ecosystem. I cover the North, Central and South American magazine industries as a beat. I keep my thumb on the pulse of change in the magazine media industry, sharing insight and best practices for the FIPP news blog and weekly e-newsletter.

At FIPP’s global conferences, I work in a volunteer reporter capacity in a high-volume environment to write features and summaries about presentations with half-hour turnaround time for publication on FIPP’s website and social feeds.

Most recently, I was a Social Media Editor for INNOVATION Media Consulting. In this role, I delivered high-quality content in a range of formats across social media daily, and weekly through our newsletters & blog. I was also an associate editor for the annual magazine, the Innovation In News Media World Report, where I researched, analyzed, and wrote about broad issues affecting news media around the world.

My experience in media spans magazines and editorial, news, photography, social media, non-fiction editing and opinion.

Previously, I was a freelance journalist with bylines and photos in more than 40 magazines and newspapers across Canada. I was assistant editor and then editor of a quarterly magazine, where in addition to writing features and shooting photos, a lot of my work was behind the scenes: conceptualizing, assigning and editing stories from freelancers and proofing pages.

I have a Master of Journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, where I studied multi-platform strategy and the magazine industry. I have a Bachelor of Journalism (Honours) from the University of King’s College in Halifax, which is what set me on this path in the first place.
