I started my career in news: I interned and freelanced at The Halifax Daily News. In addition to coverage of press briefings, a court case, and events happening in HRM, I wrote a front page story about a Norwalk virus outbreak at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and a profile of a Halifax Explosion survivor.
In 2007, I moved across Canada to be a general news reporter at a community weekly near Calgary. I was the primary reporter assigned to cover breaking news events including highway accidents, fires, and other emergencies.
In addition to covering municipal council, school council, I wrote feature articles about community events and issues. For example, I wrote a series of long features on the town and county’s historical flooding, more recent history of flooding, preventative measures like dikes and floodways and support from the provincial government.
